Vehicle over cliff in Canterbury District, 1:20am 3 Dec 2008

At about 1.20am this morning emergency services were alerted by a resident of Purau Street in Diamond Harbour that a vehicle had driven over a cliff into the sea at Puau Bay.
Police, Fire, Ambulance, A Lyttelton Harbour Board Vessel and a Rescue Helicopter attended the scene attended the scene and found the vehicle on the waterfront.
The sole male occupant of the vehicle (further details not available at this time) was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital where he is being treated for moderate injuries.
The Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle concerned was later reported as stolen.
