A father whose family witnessed the support Ronald McDonald House South Island provides when his son was seriously ill after birth is now giving10 percent of his income back to the charity.

Hours after the birth of William in September, 2007, Nic and Megan Dale were told their son had a serious lung infection that would see him remain in ICU for 17 days.

“Things were serious enough, but being apart from William would mean Megan could not continue to breast feed. But luckily, she was offered an en-suite bedroom in the Neo-Natal Unit so she could be close to William,” Mr Dale says.

“While William and Megan were in the Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit, we saw the terrific support RMHSI provides families with sick children.”

RMHSI will soon build a family room in Christchurch Hospital to provide a timeout zone for parents with showers, laundry and a lounge that will be staffed by volunteers. The existing Ronald McDonald House in Cashel St will soon be expanded with the addition of nine extra rooms. These will also support South Island families with sick children.

“After witnessing how their support benefits families, I’m donating 10 percent of the income from my new business to RMHSI. It’s great to see that these funds will help build these exciting new projects,” says Mr Dale.

AdCard displays business card sized advertisements in custom designed displays in areas where there is lots of foot traffic. Mr Dale says this low-cost, high-impact form of marketing is proving popular among Canterbury businesses. Those hosting the displays are also happy to be helping parents with sick children.

“It’s a win win situation. My clients get to grow their businesses and I’m able to help parents whose children need hospital treatment just like William did,” Mr Dale concludes.
