Holden Strong at Pukekohe
Caine Lobb heads to Auckland this weekend for round two of the ENZED V8 Ute Series which he believes will be the team's big chance to get some good points on the board for a strong championship campaign.
The fast paced historical circuit is expected to suit the characteristics of the Mark Cromie Holden Racing Team NZV8UR this weekend where the car will be able to stretch it's legs through the sweeping corners and long back straight of Pukekohe.
"Pukekohe is going to suit our car this weekend as the Ford's seemed to be quite nimble on the tighter circuits like Manfeild the other week." said Lobb.
"We should be quite strong here I think."
In June earlier this year Pukekohe Park Raceway was host to the final round of the previous season and Lobb showed he was very competitive on the circuit.
He won the final race of the season against a very quick and then recently crowned Super Sedan Champion Dayne Running.
Lobb had missed out on some valuable track time when he was forced to miss a practice session with a damaged race car after being caught up in an incident he was unable to avoid.
Even so he went into the qualification session with less laps under his belt than optimum but managed to set the third best time.
This time around he is looking to capitalise on the fast straights and corners of the circuit from behind the wheel of the Holden attempting to take maximum points on a circuit where he feels he may have a small advantage over the Fords.
"Pukekohe is probably our best shot in the car which has a lot of straight line speed but doesn't seem to be quite as nimble as the Fords but we are still working on that." said Lobb.
"But it's all good, the car goes well and should go really well there and we hope to make up for it with the power of the car."
"The Fords and Holdens have different back ends so there's going to be quite some difference between them over the season as we visit each circuit."
Caine Lobb currently sits in second place in the championship just 16 points behind current champion Matt Lockwood and if he is right about the circuit favouring the Holden could well come away in front of the Ford driver after the weekend.
A new member and mechanic to Mark Cromie Holden Racing has added a new dimension to the red team.
"We have Zane now as our mechanic, he works at Mark Cromie Holden and is a red head too!"
"So now we have Caine and Zane, a couple of ginjas!" laughs Lobb
Caine Lobb is simply known as the Ginja Ninja by organisers, participants and fans of the ENZED V8 Ute Series.
