Armed Offender Incident

At approx 12.32 am on Wednesday 10 December 2008 Ashburton Police pursued a Toyota car north on SH 1 between Ashburton and Dunsandel.

The offender was slowed down using spikes north of Rakaia but continued on deflated tyres until near the Old South Road intersection just south of Dunsandel.

It was believed the offender may have been in possession of a firearm and to ensure public safety SH 1 was closed by Police Staff at around 1.07 am.

The Armed Offenders Squad responded and a person was eventually taken into custody. The highway was reopened at 2.44 am.
