The Emergency Management Academy of New Zealand (EMANZ) has been purchased by West Coast’s Tai Poutini Polytechnic and will be part of the Emergency Services Department providing an academic infrastructure for New Zealand’s largest provider of emergency management services.

Director of National and Industry Programmes at Tai Poutini Polytechnic, Marion Smith, says the new partnership will mean students can benefit from a new era that will better service the emergency management industry in New Zealand.

“EMANZ approached us at the beginning of the year to discuss options and we thought the opportunity was perfect to expand our already established programmes” Smith says.

Tai Poutini Polytechnic offers both level two and level four certificate programmes that train front-line emergency management personnel for operational service in civil defence emergencies in a range of chosen functions including welfare, flood protection, storm response, medical response, and disaster rescue.

EMANZ is based in Palmerston North and together with Tai Poutini Polytechnic is a premier national training provider delivering over one hundred courses throughout New Zealand each year to more than 1000 students.
