Death at Bethells beach
One person dead one missing at Bethells Beach.
Emergency services responded to a water emergency at Bethells Beach this morning.
The alarm was raised by three associates of the two at 11.30am.
Five people were fishing from the rocks when they were swamped by a large wave pulling two into the water. One person was recovered by his friends but has since died. The second is still missing.
The three had to wait 20 minutes for the tide to recess before they could alert local surf rescue and medical services.
A search was commenced by Surf rescue, westpac helicopter and police.
The second person is yet to be located. Police are in contact with the families of both men.
Enquiries reveal that the group did not have any flotation devices which is recommended when fishing from rocks.
Enquiries and search are ongoing and the matter will be reported to the coroner.
