Pedestrian struck by vehicle

Takaka Police are investigating a serious crash involving a car and a pedestrian that occurred yesterday at approximately 6pm.

A 15 year old Takaka boy was crossing State Highway 60 near Onekaka with his sister when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west towards Collingwood.

The boy was flown by rescue helicopter to Wellington Hospital where he remains in a critical condition on life support.

Serious crash investigators are today examining the scene as part of the ongoing Police investigation.
The driver of the vehicle is co-operating with the Police.

Police ask that any person who witnessed the crash contact the Takaka Police on 03 5259211.
Police have no further comment at this stage.

'Police wish to remind all drivers to take every precaution during this busy time of year.

Our thoughts are very much with the boy and his family at this stage' Said Constable Jonathan Davies of the Takaka Police.
