Wellington Traffic Alcohol Group had a major checkpoint overnight on State Highway 2, near Horokiwi, Wellington.
With the help of staff from across the Wellington District Road Policing Groups they stopped a total of 2850 vehicles from 11pm Friday night til 6am Saturday morning.
As a result 10 people were processed for drink driving offences, 3 drivers were processed for disqualified and suspended driving offences.
2 people were arrested and face other charges.
A number of vehicles were inspected and ordered off the road due to serious defects.
Polce are concerned about the number of drivers processed for alcohol related offences coming from xmas functions, however they are pleased to see that there is a large number of people using taxis and sober drivers overnight.
Motorists can expect more Police checkpoints over the Christmas and New Year period.
