Lights Sculpture Removed for Repairs
A new feature in the TSB Bank Festival of Lights has been temporarily removed from the main lake for repairs.
The large Vortex sculpture by artist Nicola Haines was discovered on Sunday morning submerged in the lake.
“We’re not sure what happened,” says Acting Manager Events Melissa Devine-Collins.
“The design was thought to be structurally sound, but there have been ongoing problems with the stability of the structure.
“The vortex has now been removed from the park for further engineering testing. It’s an eye-catching sculpture and a great focal point for the lake, so we’ll be working on getting it back into the festival in January.”
Meanwhile the interactive artwork Four Seasons in One Day in the children’s playground is very popular with both children and adults, as they use their shadows to manipulate the images on the screen.
Other features in the festival this season include the giant kaleidoscope, Grimace the Gorilla, the black-light area and the sleeping giant.
