Serious Accident in Bay of Plenty District, 11:00am

Police are currently in attendance at a serious motor vehicle collision on State Highway 30 Whakamaru.

At just after 10a.m. this morning two vehicles have collided on the State Highway, near the Whakamaru dam.

As a result of the collison one person has died at the scene.

Emergency services expect to be present for some time and the Serious Crash Unit has launched an investigation.

Police advise that State Highway 30 Whakamaru is now closed and an alternative route from the north is State Highway 32 onto State Highway 30 (Ongarato Road), through to Tram Road onto Tirohanga Road then to Pohipi Road before entering State Highway 32.

The closure is expected to be in effect for another 2 hours.
