New Year Round up in Wellington District, 5:50am 1 Jan 2009

Wellington Central Police report that the New Eve celebrations were reasonably quite and the majority of people celebrating in the city were well behaved.
50 people were arrested for variety of offences which included fighting, assault, disorderly behavior and breach of the Liquor ban.
They also stopped over 6000 vehicles which resulted in fourteen people being processed for drink driving offences.
Inspector Simon Perry said that while it always disappointing to have to process anyone for drink driving it was very pleasing to see large numbers of people utilizing taxis and shuttle vans.
