Fatal accident on intersection of SH48 and SH47
At about 10.15am yesterday morning a campervan was travelling down State Highway 48 toward the intersection with State Highway 47.
The campervan was driven by Goran OSKARSSON (aged 50 years) and passengers included his wife and three teenage children.
All from Sweden.
It appears he has been unable to make a left hand turn at the 'T' intersection and has skidded across State Highway 47 before rolling down a 20 m bank into a small creek.
Mr OSKARSSON was trapped and died at the scene.
His wife suffered broken bones and head injuries and was flown to Waikato Hospital. All three children suffered lacerations and bruising and were transported to Waikato Hospital by ambulance via Taumarunui.
Identification on Mr OSKARSSON would indicate that he was an Police Inspector in Sweden. Next of kin have been advised.
Any further media enquiries can be directed to National Park police on Friday.
