Water rescue in Bay of Plenty District, 4:00pm 1 Jan 2009

Police at Maketu Bay of plenty were called to a water rescue shortly after 3pm yesterday.

Initially police were informed that a young boy was in trouble in the surf.

Police sent the Maketu fire rescue boat to the scene.

The Volunteer crew were able to rescue 6 persons from the surf. One person required medical assistance.

Police would like to acknowledge the quick and efficient volunteer fire response to resolve this incident and return the six to safety
