Child drowns at Turihaua Beach

At about 2.45pm today a 2 1/2 year old male went missing from the Turihaua Camping Ground.

He was staying there with his family.

After an extensive search by police, Search and Rescue as well as people from the camping ground, the young boy was found just after 5pm, drowned in the nearby lagoon.

The name of the toddler has not been released until the extended family have been advised.

This may be available from Gisborne Police tomorrow (Friday)

There is no further information being released at this time.
