Armed Incident in Waikato District, 5:15am

At approximately 5:15am this morning Police received a call regarding an alleged fight between two males at an address in Hauturu, which is in the vicinity of Kawhia.

A short time later Police received further information that a male had gained possession of a firearm and had fired some shots into the air.

Police from Te Awamutu, Kawhia, Te Kuiti, Cambridge and Hamilton attended the scene.

The Armed Offenders Squad apprehended the suspect without incident; a male Maori aged 19 years, at approximately 9:35 am.

Enquiries are at an early stage and continuing.
