Information re distress flares - Waikato

The Auckland Police Maritime Unit would like to hear from anyone who can identify the person or persons responsible for setting off 2 distress flares at Waimate Island in the Coromandel Harbour area on New Years Eve.

Valuable resources were wasted at this time searching the area.

This included the Westpac Helicopter.

There are severe penalties for any person setting off distress flares when it is not a distress situation.
