Water rescue in Canterbury District, 7:00pm 3 Jan 2009

Story of the Year.
A male is currently being picked up by the Ashley/Waimak Coast Guard after a Russian trawler 13 kms off the Canterbury Coast reported sighting a male on a broken down jet ski.
This male has apparently spent at least the past 24 hours adrift out at sea but had not been reported missing.
The jet skier was settling down for another night at sea when the Russian trawler came into sight.
Considering the Northwest and southerly storms in the past 24 hours he is a very lucky man
