FOX GLACIER

One of the victims of yesterday's tragedy at Fox Glacier remains trapped under ice.

The attached photographs give an indication of the scale of the ice collapse.

The digger was unable to advance any further due to the threatening nature of the icecliffs above.

Department of Conservation (DoC) have two staff monitoring the site at Fox Glacier.

This will continue during daylight hours until at least Monday.

The Police will be meeting with DoC on Monday to reassess the situation.

At this time heavy rain is falling in Fox Glacier and this may have a significant impact on the dynamics of the glacier.

The results of this rainfall can not be predicted and at this time the Police can not say when or if another active search will take place. These options will be continually reassess as conditions change.

The victim's family have visited the site of this tragedy and are extremely distraught.

They have requested privacy to morn the loss of their sons.

The family is remaining in the area for a short time before returning to Australia.

They are being assisted by the Australian High Commission.
