Rock kills possum trapper in Omarama

Oamaru Police are currently investigating the death of a 49 year old Owaka man.
The man was working in remote hill country as a contractor on a Omarama farm lying bait for possum's. He was last seen at about 0830hrs after being dropped off. He was discovered about 1530 by work colleagues.
It appears in the process of lying the bait a large rock has come loose trapping the man beneath.
As a result he died of his injuries.
The man was recovered by Oamaru Police, Omarama fire brigade, Omarama Search and Rescue and Air one Rescue from Dunedin.
The matter has been referred to the coroner
