Fatal crash on Christchurch motorway

At approximately 8.50pm on Monday 26 January 2009 two oncoming cars collided on the Christchurch Southern Motorway (SH 73), west of the intersection with Barrington Street in Christchurch. As a result of this collision, the sole male occupant in one car died at the scene. A man and woman in the second vehicle received minor injuries.
The road has been closed to traffic and detours put in place. Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
