A 21 year old Dunedin woman has died as a result of knife wounds after a domestic altercation in Bay View Road, South Dunedin.
A 50 year old man has a number of knife wounds and is currently in Dunedin Hospital under Police guard.
A number of witnesses are currently being interviewed by the Police and the scene is under guard until a full scene examination can take place.
District Crime Services Manager Detective Inspector Pinkham said that the rain in Dunedin had initially hampered the initial stages of the scene preservation but the scene is now protected.
Detectives will continue with the investigation tomorrow with a post mortem of the deceased and a scene examination with the assistance of staff from the ESR (Environmental Science & Research) in Christchurch.
A further media release will not occur until after 0900 hours Tuesday.
