Triple fatality on Kapiti Coast

WELLINGTON

At about 4.45pm on Sunday 1 February 2009, police attended a triple fatality on State Highway One, approximately 50 metres north of the Peka Peka Rd, intersection.
It appears a north bound vehicle has crossed the centre line colliding head on with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
A 25 year old female, who was the sole occupant of the southbound vehicle, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The elderly driver of the north bound vehicle also died at the scene, his female passenger was airlifted to Wellington Hospital but died on arrival.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash which at this stage is unclear.
Motorists experienced delays of up to 3 hours whilst the scene was attended by emergency services.
Due to the location of the crash traffic was unable to be diverted.
Names of the deceased' have not yet been released and will be available once Next of Kin inquiries have been completed.
