Increased options for Kiwi children and adults are part of Burger King’s expanding menu range.

In line with its philosophy of Let Nothing Get in the Way, the company has a number of balanced food options on its menu, with more on the way – all offering further choice for customers.

For its smallest visitors, children, Burger King offers chicken tenders made with chicken breast meat, or a hamburger. The chicken tenders or hamburger can be teamed with mandarins in juice and a Pump mini, making meal combinations that rate as everyday foods under The Ministry of Health’s Food and Beverage Classification System.

Burger King Head of Marketing, Rachael Allison, says the company is committed to listening to New Zealanders, evolving its menu and upholding the quality of its food.

“We understand the importance of giving our customers options and choice – and we have made and will continue to make changes to our menu that reflect what our customers want.

“One of our initiatives, the choice of light mayo is not widely available in the quick service restaurant industry and most importantly allows our customers to make choices appropriate for their lifestyle. Customers can choose to swap to light mayo on any burger for no extra cost.

“In addition we have a grilled low fat chicken burger – our Tendergrill burger – and, with our low fat mayo, this burger contains only 2.9% fat.”

Food Industry Group Executive Director Vicki Hamilton is supportive of the company’s approach: “We congratulate and commend Burger King for the positive changes it is making and helping Kiwis make informed food choices.”

For adults, the company has introduced a smaller meal option (small burger, small fries and a small drink for $5), which has proved to be popular and enables customers to enjoy a great value smaller meal.

Furthermore, the quick service restaurant is currently researching oil options with the aim to eliminate trans-fats and reduce saturated fats. A transition would take place over a number of months, with initial development work currently taking place.

Burger King is also encouraging active lifestyles, particularly for children, with its support of the Counties Manukau Basketball Allocation Project. Created in association with its sponsorship of the NZ Breakers, this programme provides schools and recreation centres with basketballs. To date, Burger King has donated 500 basketballs that have been distributed to 42 schools and five recreation centres in the South Auckland area.

Ms Allison comments: “Burger King is very much part of New Zealand, employing local people, using local products, supporting active lifestyles and developing menu choices for Kiwi taste buds.”
