BOTANY TOWN CENTRE SHOPPERS DEFY DOWNTURN TO DIG DEEP FOR AUCKLAND CITY MISSION

Despite worries about the economic downturn Botany Town Centre shoppers were quick to spare a thought for those less fortunate over the holiday period when they opened their wallets wide to help the Auckland City Mission get off to a good start in 2009.

While shoppers may have been feeling the pinch over the Christmas period, their giving spirit was undimmed and they forked out close to $4,000 to help the non-profit organisation continue to provide its unique and specialised health and social services to Aucklanders.

Donations were collected via the Visitors Centre, Gift Wrapping Booth and Scene to Believe Santa photos.

Centre Manager, Jennifer Manning said she was delighted with the generous result and wanted to thank Botany Town Centre shoppers for getting behind such a great cause. “The Auckland City Mission does very important work for those individuals and families who need help, and Botany Town Centre was pleased to give its support.”

Auckland City Mission Fundraiser James Holt said Botany Town Centre and its shoppers had made a great donation that will be used to offer free professional social services and advocacy to those in the community with extremely limited options.”

The Auckland City Mission offers a range of support services, from providing people with food, beds and bedding to helping them achieve lasting change in their lives. The Mission’s long term support involves advocating for clients, helping them overcome addiction or providing them with medical care through the Calder Centre’s medical services.

Botany Town Centre presented a cheque of $3,813.40 to the Auckland City Mission on Tuesday 3 February.
