Visitor numbers at the Genesis Energy Turangi Aquatic Centre continue to rise with a surprising number of adults also making use of the facilities.

Swimmers have been coming for aquarobics, physiotherapy sessions, triathlon training, holiday excursions and, of course, just to escape the summer heat.

Pool staff say they’ve received very positive feedback about the facilities which re-opened in September 2008 after extensive renovations.

Turangi-Tongariro Community Board Chairman Councillor Don Ormsby says he believes the aquatic centre is of international standard. “The staff have even reported comments from overseas visitors wishing they had such great facilities in their own towns,” he says.

The last major construction task - the installation of solar-heating panels – is expected to begin in the very near future and will not affect the centre’s opening hours.
