Mother charged with abandoning child

The mother who was spoken to by Police on the 1st of February in Kaikoura after her baby was located at 2:45 am in the yard of a business premises, has been charged.(17 February 2009)
She will next appear in the Kaikoura District court on 6th March 2009 to face charges of:

* Abandoning a child

* Failing to provide a child with the necessities.

Through CYFS the child has been placed with relatives on a permanent basis, and he is doing well.
