ALEXANDRA

At about 9.40 am Saturday the 21st of February 2009 the Police and Ambulance services were called to a rural Alexandra address where a 37 year old female was located unconscious and with head injuries in a room within the house.
The victim has been flown by helicopter to Dunedin hospital and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit under going examination and treatment for her injuries.
Police located a male person on foot a short distance from the address and he has been taken to Police custody and has been transported to Dunedin for physiological assessment.
Two children at the address at the time of the incident are being cared for by next of kin and CYF's have been contacted.
Police and forensic staff are carrying out an examination of the scene and in total 18 Police staff are working on the operation.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie says 'It is too early to speculate on what prompted the incident and the interviews of the persons allegedly involved, witnesses, psychiatric assessments and scene examination will take a number of days by which time a clearer picture will become apparent'
'At that time a decision will be made on what charge or charges will be laid.'
