Serious car crash in Canterbury

CANTERBURY

At about 2.10 pm today 27th February a serious crash occurred on State Highway One, south of Greta Valley Village.
This was an 2 car collision, There was 3 occupants in one vehicle heading north and two occupants in another vehicle heading south.
All five people sustained injuries to some degree. Two people were extracted from one vehicle by fire service personal using cutting equipment and air lifted to Christchurch hospital, one with serious injuries, one other occupant was also airlifted to hospital. The Westpac Rescue helicopter along with another helicopter were dispatched from Christchurch.
Two people were transported by ambulance.
All five people were foreign tourists.
The police investigation is still in the very early stages with witnesses still to be spoken to.
