Hamilton City Council has won silver at the national marketing awards for its strategic planning and vision around the development of the Hamilton brand.

Hamilton City Council was the only local government finalist in the awards amongst some of the country's leading companies and brands.

Companies such as TVNZ, Ezibuy, Progressive Enterprises and Foodstuffs were represented as finalists in the Strategic Vision category of the Nexus Awards where a gold award was not presented.

The New Zealand Marketing Association awards are regarded as providing the most rigorous and hotly contested forum for the marketing industry in New Zealand.

Hamilton City Council CEO Michael Redman says the silver award is a tremendous achievement against very strong competition.

"The whole of Council aspires to compare well against the best, not just other councils, and this is clearly proof that we have the people and ideas to produce truly excellent work.

"Special credit is due to the Communication and Marketing Group and Marketing Manager Michelle Smith for the work that has been carried out on the development of the Hamilton brand over the last couple of years.

"Helping to brand a city and then to go about the implementation of that brand is a very challenging task … one that has been taken on with considerable success by some key people at Hamilton City Council," says Mr Redman.
