The Stratford District Council has approved the draft version of their Long Term Council Community Plan for the years 2009-2019. The Plan is a guide for Council’s activities and decision-making over the next ten years.

Mayor John Edwards says “the Long Term Plan aims to achieve the fine balance between what is affordable for both the Council and community, providing the right services at the right level.”

“We know that many people are finding life financially difficult at the moment, and we are conscious of not adding unnecessarily to that strain. At the same time we have a responsibility to provide for what is required in the Stratford District to make it a safe, sustainable, and pleasant place to live.”
The draft Long Term Plan is now available for public comment.

Mayor Edwards says “it is essential the general public is aware of the Plan and of issues that might affect them. Anyone can have their say on the draft Long Term Plan, and all comments are reviewed by the Council.”

The Plan is available from www.stratford.govt.nz and a summary is being sent to Stratford residents with the Stratford Press on Thursday 10 March 2009.

“The Council and the community have an opportunity to work together to create a Long Term Plan that shows the heart and positive future of our District” says Mayor Edwards.
