BNZ Manukau City armed robbery
At 5.22pm on Friday the 13th of March 2009 an Armourguard security van driver was robbed at gunpoint of bank bags containing a large amount of cash in excess of $200,000.
The gunman approached as the driver was about to place six money bags into the security van after leaving the main entrance of the bank on the corner of Great South Road and Ronwood Avenue, Manukau City.
The gunman threatened the driver with a sawn off firearm which was covered by cloth. He got into a 1998 white Subaru Impreza WRX sedan driven by a second offender. This vehicle was parked in the customer carpark and drove down the back of the bank onto Great South Road.
The money was contained within 6 bags, described as:
* 5 large black bank bags, and
* 1 orange bank bag, all with zip seals
This vehicle, registration number END922, was stolen from a public carpark at the Old Papatoetoe shopping centre at about 4.45pm on the 13th of March 2009.
Counties Manukau Detectives would like to hear from anyone who can assist with the movements of this vehicle immediately before and after the robbery. The public are also encouraged to be on the lookout for the bank bags.
The gunman is described as solid build, wearing a black balaclava over a peaked cap, white gloves, dark sweatshirt, blue jeans and sneakers.
Officer in Charge, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave PIZZINI, says 'The gunman and his clothing shown in the footage may be familiar to someone who has noticed unusual behaviour recently. Any calls can be treated in strict confidence.'
