Swimmers at the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre may find the indoor pool water to be cooler than usual this Friday.

The temporary temperature reduction will be the result of work done overnight to install an additional water pump for the new hydroslides.

“We need to drop the water level in the indoor pool by about a foot so that we can access the wave machine’s adjacent tank to install the water pump,” says General Manager Customer Services Cathy Thurston.

“The water volume will begin to drop soon after 6.00pm tomorrow (Thursday), but the pool will remain operational until the aquatic centre closes at 8.30pm.

“We’ll refill the pool so that it’s ready for use the next morning, but the water temperature will probably take a bit longer to get back up to the usual level. Swimmers will probably find the water more refreshing than usual on Friday morning!”

The pump will drive a new feature in both the turboslide and the family slide: A water curtain, through which customers will travel on their way down the slides.

“As well as being a fun new feature, the water curtains will prevent people travelling too quickly down the slides past each point,” says Mrs Thurston.

The installation of these new features has been undertaken in liaison with the Department of Labour. “We are working with the department in securing an opening date for the slides once we are satisfied with the operation of the new features,” she says.
