Fatal crash on Christchurch motorway
At approximately 12.50 am on Thursday 19th March the Christchurch Police and other emergency services attended a fatal car crash on the south bound motorway on State Highway 1 just north of Belfast. The 41 year old male driver of a black Toyota Celica has failed to take the bend and has subsequently left the road. He died of his injuries at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to Christchurch Hospital where he has been treated for moderate injuries . The preliminary investigation indicates that speed was a factor in this fatal crash. It is again a real tragedy that speed has killed yet another person on our roads.
