Wanted a Person in Canterbury District, 10:00am 20 Mar 2009
New Zealand Police Alert 10:00am 20 Mar 2009 Canterbury
Location of incident: Christchurch
Incident type: Wanted aPerson
Late in the evening last night, the Police disturbed William STEWART who they had been seeking lately because of warrants to arrest being outstanding. He was disturbed on a property in the Gebbies Pass area and evaded Police efforts to relocate him.
At about 4.30 am this morning, a lone motorcyclist heading towards Christchurch from the Teddington area was confronted by a Police road block and the rider took off up into a local residential street in Governors Bay, and scampered off into the bush. The motorbike was later found to be stolen from a shed down in the Teddington area.
The Police have since been working in the hills around Governors Bay in an effort to find again this man, and this effort will continue.
The Police wish to emphasise that although this man should not be approached, he appears to be more intent on evading the Police rather than posing a major threat to individual members of the public. It is, however, essential that properties are kept locked anywhere in the Governors Bay area and also areas such as Cashmere, Westmoreland, Kennedys Bush and Halswell. It is essential that keys are not left in motor vehicles.
Yesterday, a Subaru car was stolen and this has now been recovered from the bush area at Gebbies Pass.
