The deceased person from the overnight Fatal crash near Balclutha was a 22 year old Israeli tourist.
Police enquiries are ongoing to locate the deceased's next of kin. These enquiries involve Interpol and the Israeli Embassy. The name of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.
A serious crash analyst has been out this morning to map out the scene. Although the cause of the crash has not yet been determined it appears as though the deceased's vehicle has been in the opposing lane.
We are awaiting an update on the status of the five injured young people from the second vehicle.
One of the injured parties was thrown forward from the back seat. It appears as though this person was not wearing their seatbelt.
