A severe weather warning has been issued by the Metservice for Northland Auckland, and Coromandel over the next 12 hours.
A further 70 to 100 mm of rain is expected to fall in the Northland District between now and 3am. Heavy rain is expected in the Auckland Region overnight particularly north of Orewa.
120 to 150mm of rain is expected overnight in the Coromandel area. Strong winds in excess of 140km/h are also expected overnight in all three areas.
Members of the public are advised to stay indoors and not travel on the roads unless absolutely necessary.
