Tineke Berthelsen (Hamilton) and Lizzie Ingham (Wellington) have both produced stunning runs in the middle qualifier at JWOC, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in their heats and putting both through to a great starting position in the A-final which is to be held on Thursday.

Kate Morrison (Hawke's Bay) also had a strong performance to qualify in equal 17th, backing up from a very solid performance in the long distance on Monday. The only other New Zealander to qualify other than the three girls was Thomas Reynolds, who snuck in from the mens A-heat to qualify in 19th place with just 8 seconds to spare before he would have missed out.

Kate Rea (Counties Manukau) was looking good to easily qualify in the B-heat, however a big mistake just two controls from the end dashed her hopes and put her out of contention. Nicola Peat too was very unlucky not to qualify in the A-heat, the same heat that Berthelsen had placed 2nd in, as she was just 28 seconds behind the qualifying time and ended up in 22nd place.

Greta Knarston (Counties Manukau) was hopeful of qualifying after her brilliant top-20 placings obtained in the sprint and the long distance races, but it was not to be as she was a bit over the qualification time and ended up with a mp anyway after a control didn't register.

Jack Vincent qualified in 25th place, over one minute behind the qualifying time. The rest of the New Zealand men struggled a bit, losing time out on their courses and a few struggling with nagging injuries.
