Serious Assault in Northland District

At approximately 8.30 pm on Monday the 30th March 2009, a 50 year old male was seriously assaulted in Te Kopuru.
He was hit over the head with a metal pipe; as a result of this assault he received a large laceration to his head that required medical intervention.
He was taken through to Whangarei Hospital by Ambulance.
A 23 year old male was arrested and has been charged with wounding with intent. He is to appear in the Dargaville District Court on Tuesday 31st March 2009.
Police enquiries are continuing into this incident and appeal to anyone who may have witnessed any fighting outside the fire station in Te Kopuru.
