Retailers and restaurants on the south end of Victoria Street are getting together this Easter to celebrate the revitalised streetscape that is being revealed as construction workers finish up and move out.

Finished improvements to Victoria St include the widening of the central median, permanently one-laning traffic in each direction, enhanced lighting, attractive landscaping, partial pavement replacement, highlighting of the Riff Raff reserve and a much enhanced pedestrian environment.

Resident retailers, bars and restaurants are sending out a warm welcome back and are inviting visitors to come and check out the new look of their city’s main street.

On Saturday, children should look out for some very tall Easter bunny helpers who will be handing out lots of Easter treats plus many popular stores and eateries will be offering fantastic ‘house warming’ deals.

The second phase of Hamilton's CityHeart project has begun with construction along Victoria Street between Collingwood and Alma Streets. The revitalisation work has required the closure of the southbound traffic lane until the end of June.

Vehicles can still easily access the south end of Victoria St by diverting down any of the cross streets between Victoria and Anglesea, and then returning to Victoria St through either Hood St or Collingwood St.

The CityHeart project is underway to create spaces in Hamilton that provide improved connectivity and better reflect our city's identity. Plans for Victoria Street, particularly from Bryce Street to Hood Street, will result in a more pedestrian friendly and traffic calmed zone and encourage a corridor for destination traffic rather than through traffic.
