DANNEVIRKE

At about 7.40pm on Saturday 18th April, 2009, at a residence in Dannevirke, an assault took place when a 50 year old local man forced his way into the home of his estranged wife.
Once inside the house the man attacked a 51 year old Palmerston North man with a knife. The man received serious injuries, requiring his removal to Palmerston North Hospital by Helicopter. After extensive surgery, the man is in a serious but stable condition.
Three other people at the address were also injured.
The alleged offender will be appearing before the Palmerston North District Court on Monday morning, facing a charge of assault.
The Police investigation is continuing, and it is likely that further charges will follow.
Media enquiries should be referred to Senior Sergeant Revill-Johnson.
