Fatal vehicle crash in Northland District, 12:15pm 1 May 2009

At about 12.15pm on Friday 1 May 2009 a motorcycle collided with a Toyota 4x4 car at the intersection of Aucks Road and Russell-Whakapara Road, near Russell.
The 33 year old male rider of the motorcycle (only occupant) was flown to the Whangarei Hospital by helicopter.
He died shortly after arrival at the Hospital.
The female driver (sole occupant) of the Toyota 4x4 suffered minor scratches to her arms.
The road was reduced to one lane for about 4 hours.
The Northland Serious Crash Unit and the Russell Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Initial indications are that the speed of the motorcycle was a factor in this crash.
The death has been reported to the Northland Coroner.
The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
