Jesus Lizard Live DVD Available For First Time In New Zealand
While the studio recordings of Chicago's the Jesus Lizard are part of the canon of 90s indie rock, anyone who saw them knows their reputation as the live band of that era is completely accurate. This DVD captures the original quartet in 1994 playing to a packed and frenzied crowd at Venus de Milo in Boston. The bands workman like approach to their taunt, pummeling sound is contrasted by front man David Yows' Dionysian revelry as he whips himself and the crowd into an ecstatic mess. This 2-camera shoot catches all the blood, spit and sweat of a truly killer live band at their peak.

“ .. When the Jesus Lizard played one of their mighty shows, it was a cathartic rite. And on October 4, 1994, their temple was the Venus de Milo club in Boston, the show captured in living color and thoroughly crankable high-fidelity audio on the DVD you’re now holding in your sweaty little hands. Here is Jesus Lizard in all their glory — frontman David Yow unleashes bloodcurdling howls while heaving himself into the audience, guitarist Duane Denison chops out riffs like a kung fu master on a chainsaw massacre, drummer Mac McNeilly and bassist David Wm. Sims groove with the ruthlessness of an automated slaughterhouse. As the post-show interviewer puts it, a Jesus Lizard show was 'always a heck of an experience.' Hallellujah that it’s been documented so well “
