Fatal crash near Tauranga

3:00pm 10 May 2009 - Police are investigating the scene of a fatal 2 car crash on State Highway 29 between Redwood lane and Belk Road. One person is deceased at the scene after his vehicle left the road and went into the Wairoa River. The road is closed and extensive delays are expected. Diversions are in place, but motorists are urged to delay travel in the area.
Southbound diversions are State Highway Two to Katikati, and then turn left onto Wairoa Road.
Northbound diversion is Poripori Road however this is not suitable for heavy motor vehicles and these will need to delay their journey for up to three hours.
