Divers search for missing 73-year-old in Port Waikato
6:00pm 10 May 2009 - Police were alerted about 5pm yesterday that a 73-year-old man was missing from the Port Waikato area.
Police divers from Wellington have spent the day searching the mouth of the Waikato River for the man. It would appear that the man fell into the river while trying to board his boat.
At this stage they have found no sign of the man.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter service has also been involved in the search concentrating on the shoreline and neighbouring islands.
The search resumed at around 11am today but it has been suspended as conditions have become hazardous for police.
The search will continue tomorrow morning. Police are in regular contact with the man's immediate family.
Senior Sergeant Peter Raynes.
