Disorder in Southern District, 11:00pm 15 May

At about 1.00am on Friday the 15th of May 2009 Balclutha Police were called to attend the Rosebank Hotel in Clyde Street, Balclutha.

This was because of an altercation between two parties that resulted in a fight. During this fight one of the parties has talked about getting a firearm out of the boot of his car.

Police were called however the main protagonists had left prior to our arrival.

A short time later Police came across another altercation outside an address in Stewart Street. This was between the two parties previously mentioned.

Attending Police were able to calm the situation down and the incident was dealt with.

At about 11.00am this morning Police executed a search warrant at a Stewart Street address in Balclutha with the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad.

No firearms were located at this address.

However the two main offenders were located and arrested, and are currently being questioned.

The arrest and search went very smoothly without any overt force being used.

A 32 year old Kaihiku man has been arrested for Disorderly Behaviour Likely to Cause Violence.

A 28 year old Invercargill man has been arrested for giving False Details, Driving Whilst Disqualified, and as a result of a warrant for his arrest that had been issued because of a breach of parole conditions.

He is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow morning.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident at Rosebank Lodge or in Stewart Street.
