Serious crash involving police car in Waitemata District, 10:00pm 23 May

About 2313 hrs a car ran into the back of a highway patrol car that was conducting a traffic stop on the southbound lane of the motorway, between the Tristram Road on and off ramp.

The sole occupant of the car that hit the police car is in serious condition and was taken to hospital.

Both police officers were injured, with one of them suffering a broken leg.

The Serious Crash Unit is on the scene investigating the crash.

A diversion is in place leading southbound traffic off and back on the motorway at Tristram Ave.
