Popular demand has led to the extension of the Da Vinci Machines exhibition at Waikato Museum.

While the exhibition was originally scheduled to close on 29 June 2009, high visitor numbers has now seen it extended by six weeks to 23 August.

Waikato Museum Director Kate Vusoniwailala said it has been wonderful for Hamilton to have the opportunity to host such a world renowned exhibition and she hopes local residents will make the most of the extended showing.

"This international touring exhibition has been extremely successful wherever it has gone and Hamilton is no exception.

"The fact that we are the last venue in New Zealand to host the Da Vinci Machines exhibition before it travels overseas may be a factor in its success, with people from all over the country taking the opportunity to see it again in Hamilton before it leaves our shores.

"Feedback from the exhibition has been excellent, with a high amount of interest from schools, and the special tours held by actor Ken Benn have proved very popular … It is tracking to be one of the most successful exhibitions that Waikato Museum has hosted in many years," she said.

To complement the extended exhibition, Ken Benn will also return as 'the genius himself' Leonardo da Vinci to lead visitors on guided tours on 6-7 June and 11-12 July.
