Death of Surfer in Wellington District

WELLINGTON CITY

Wellington Police are currently investigating the death of a 33 year old male while surfing at Lyall Bay beach, Wellington, on 1st June 2009.

The Police are not treating the death as suspicious and are working on behalf of the coroner.

As part of this process Wellington Police are conducting interviews with up to a dozen people who were surfing at Lyall Bay beach yesterday afternoon.

The Police are asking that anyone who witnessed what occurred at Lyall Bay beach, near to Moa Point Road, at about 3.30pm to contact them.

A port mortem examination is being completed today, and the name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
