The NZ Academy of Sport North Island (NZASNI) has opened a new multi-purpose Waikato base to further advance high performance sport in the region.

NZASNI has enhanced its Hamilton facilities at Wintec’s Avalon Campus, adding to those already at the Sport & Exercise Science Centre.

“We are delighted to establish a dedicated base on Wintec's Avalon campus for carded athletes and coaches. The NZAS North Island house will help us raise the level of support provided to Waikato's current and future champions” said NZASNI CEO Peter Pfitzinger.

The facility will include a coach support centre for knowledge sharing and technology support headed by coach advisor Bruce Blair and a base for the Waikato/BoP coach and athlete advisors as well as sport science and sports medicine specialists to work together with carded coaches and carded athletes.

“The facility will be a great resource for carded coaches and athletes who will be able to use the library and technology provided” explained Criss Strange, NZASNI Performance Services & ACE Adviser.

The expanded High Performance Centre will provide an ideal opportunity for cross-sport and cross-discipline knowledge sharing.

NZASNI will also continue to provide support services on-site for Rowing NZ’s high performance programme at Lake Karapiro.

NZAS North Island is part of SPARC’s high performance network providing support to elite athletes and coaches.
