TURANGI

Ninety Turangi residents have taken advantage of Taupo District Council's free voucher system for disposing of autumn leaves collected from their street frontages.

Turangi has over 1800 trees on Council berms and while they provide a spectacular display in autumn, they also require a concerted cleanup.

Taupo District Council employs a contractor to remove the bulk of the leaves while Council staff focus on clearing leaves from public reserves and “hotspots”. The voucher system allows residents to dispose of the leaves free of charge at the Turangi Refuse Transfer Station.

The bulk of the leaves were removed in May and Council’s regular kerb cleaning programme will remove any late falling leaves in June.

The Turangi/Tongariro Community Board has thanked the Council for the way it manages the leaf fall and says it no longer receives complaints about issues caused by leaves.
